UDP confident RDA to win Shillong LS seat

The United Democratic Party (UDP) has expressed confidence that the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) will win the Shillong parliamentary seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“That apart since two major regional parties have come together under this alliance and also at a time when the aspiration of regional parties is going to be a major focal point of the Lok Sabha elections, we are very optimistic that our (RDA) candidate will sail through,” UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh said while speaking to reporters.

The RDA is fielding former HYC president Robertjune Kharjahrin of the UDP from Shillong constituency.

Regarding the preparation for the elections, Lyngdoh said that the party has already started moving in the right direction.

“Various constituency committees are meeting and the candidate is touring various parts already. He had visited West Khasi Hills in the past one week and we hope we should be able to complete his taking part in various meetings within the prescribed time by the Election Commission,” he added.

He further informed that various issues have already been spelt out by the candidate when he was declared as official candidate. “Those issues are very vital and we are fortunate that we have been able to select the best possible issues which are relevant to the Lok Sabha,” he said.
