    SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has appealed to its four MDCs of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) to reconsider their decision to join the BJP. 

    Talking to media persons here on Friday, UDP leader and cabinet minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that the four MDCs are yet to officially tender their resignation letters to the party. 

    “To the best of my knowledge, they have not submitted their resignation letter to the party leadership,” he said.

    Asked, the minister said that the party will try to talk to the four MDCs and request them to reconsider their decision. 

    The UDP is presently having 10 MDCs in the 30-member JHADC.

    Denying that it is a blow to the party, Rymbui said that the UDP is a very strong party and it can overcome any challenges inspite of the many constrains. 

    With the anti-defection law having no relevant in the district councils, the UDP leader however said the elected members should respect the mandate of the people.
