Meghalaya had victory in their sights but were defeated by just 2 runs in their U-23 Women’s T20 Trophy 2024-25 match against Jammu and Kashmir in Jagiroad, Assam, today.

J&K made 95/6 in 20 overs batting first after losing the toss and Meghalaya were restricted to 93/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Meghalaya lost two wickets in the first over but Rubi Chettri and Ankita Sharma batted well to put on 49 for the third wicket. Ankita was out for 11 from 26, while Rubi made 28 from 59, Meghalaya’s top score. Mansi Anand struck a quick 18 from 17 deliveries to up Meghalaya’s run rate but the fall of a few wickets towards the end of the innings meant that there was too much to do for the tail-enders.

Earlier, J&K batted well and lost just one wicket in the first 17.5 overs but five more fell for the addition of just 10 runs to keep the total under 100. Suruti Kumari Ray took 2/11 in 3 overs and Rubi 1/11 in 4. The two bowlers also ran out one batter each. J&K’s top scorer, Sheena Saraf (31), was run out by Ritreki Pohshna.

Meghalaya’s previous result in this tournament saw them lose to Jharkhand by nine wickets yesterday. Meghalaya will play their next game against Gujarat on Wednesday in Guwahati.
