West Jaintia Hills District Cricket Association defeated West Khasi Hills DCA by seven wickets in their Zone 1 Group B match of the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s U-19 Boys Inter District Cricket Tournament in Umbuda, Nongpoh on Monday

Maremdor Sutnga impressed with bat and ball and was subsequently named Player of the Match. He took 4/21 as WKH were dismissed for 101 batting first and then scored an unbeaten 34.

WKH won the toss and chose to have a bat but were dismissed in 23.1 out of an available 32 overs. Too many wickets were lost cheaply and that they were able to reach triple figures is largely down to Pynierlang Shangdier, who struck 47 from just 33 deliveries, with four fours and the same number of sixes.

Maremdor’s figures were the best among the WJH bowlers but he did bowl only 4.1 overs. Namewanki Pakyntein, on the other hand, bowled 7 and took 4/29, making him far more economical.

Although they lost three wickets in the chase, WJH were never really in danger and they crossed the finish line in just 12 overs, going at 8.58 runs an over. Maremdor struck 34 from 26 with three fours and as many sixes and Namewanki kept him company at the end with 12 not out. Ewanmidao Pyrtuh also hit 19 from 16 at the top of the order, while 22 wides helped considerably in knocking off the required runs.

Tomorrow, Shillong Cricket Association A will face East Jaintia Hills DCA in Zone 1’s Group A.
