The numerable potholes in the internal roads of Jowai Town would soon be a thing of past as the NPP led MDA Govt will spend Rs. 7.8 lakh per 100 meters for improvement of the existing internal roads of Jowai Town.

It may be recalled here that after the celebration of 10th year of formation of NPP recently Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla said that the Meghalaya Govt has already allotted tender for resurfacing of internal roads of Jowai Town of 33 kilometers length and the cost is Rs.26 crore and the work will start in December this year.Major portion of the roads in Jowai Town are lying in highly deplorable conditions with numerable potholes giving a hard time for commuters especially during rainfall.

Defending the decisions to start the work in December this year, the first time MLA asserted, “We will be resurfacing only above the existing roads and there will be no metalling or digging up of roads and now it is still raining thus resurfacing is unfavourable.”

He also informed in the first sanction the amount was Rs.12 crore and it is a World Bank’s scheme.

He said that in order to meet the specification of World Bank a resurvey was carried out and the amount was subsequently increased to Rs.26 crore.

The construction of the road is initiated under the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project.
