Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong on Monday slammed the government of the United States for alleging that Meghalaya and other North Eastern states are not safe for tourists.

The US government has recently issued an advisory asking its citizens not to visit Meghalaya and NE states as they are high risk areas.

“It is very fortunate that kind of advisories issued by the government of United States of America. I don’t know from where this report came in and from where they get this report,” Tynsong told reporters.

He clarified that Meghalaya is the safest place in the world.

“And this is being witnessed not only by us from Meghalaya but throughout India not only throughout India even throughout world, they witnessed this that Meghalaya is in fact the safest place to come and to visit and to spend their holidays,” he added.
