Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Thursday assured to look into the demand for the upgradation of the Mawrong sub-centre to a primary health centre (PHC).

This was informed by NPP legislator from Mawhati Charles Marngar, who led a delegation of Synjuk ki Nongialam Shnong  Mawrong Road, Ri Bhoi district – which is a body of headmen from Mawrong and surrounding villages, after submitted a reminder letter on the matter to Tynsong.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Marngar said, “The distance between from Umsning CHC to Mawrong village is about 17 kms. This is great problem faced by the people specially for pregnant women.”

“I am happy today to get positive response from deputy CM and we do hope he will take immediate steps for upgradation of Mawrong sub centre to PHC,” he added.

According to him, Mawrong village have agreed to provide land for upgradation.

In the letter, the Synjuk expressed its appreciation that Tynsong had taken up the matter through his letter dated May 3, 2024 and April 2, 2018.

“Despite this, the health department has not taken any initiative to act upon the proposed upgradation. This inaction continues to adversely affect thousands of residents who are dependent on a facility that is grossly inadequate to meet the healthcare needs of the population,” they said.

“We would like to emphasize that along with infrastructural development, the presence of qualified medicall personnel including doctors, nurses and support staff  – is essential for the effective and proper functioning of the upgraded health center. Without adequate staffing, the purpose of upgradation would remain unfulfilled,” the Synjuk asserted.
