Deputy Chief Minister incharge Hone Prestone Tynsong on Monday asked the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) to refrain  from politicizing the issue related to the proposed relocation of 342 families of Sweepers’ Colony from Them Iew Mawlong to the land owned by the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB).

This came a day after the VPP has opposed the decision of the government to provide additional land for relocation of the said families.

Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said,  “Those leaders who criticize the decision taken by the government. They are playing politics. It is a political game only that they do without knowing the reality, without knowing the actual numbers of the residents of that place. So I dont want to debate, I don’t want to waste time with this kind of issues that they raise.”

He said “When we say we need additional land of 1.4 acres means this land will not be transferred to these people. It should be transferred, it should be handed over to Shillong Municipal Board, simple. It does not belong to them as the land belongs to the SMB. That is what I am saying don’t play politics unnecessarily. If you need clairification, come and meet me, I will explain to you everything.

Meghalaya Govt to allot additional 1.4 acres of land for relocation of 342 families of Sweepers’ Colony

Stating that the VPP cannot  just mislead people, Tynsong said  “I think enough is enough. Why should they even talk that way? Why are they trying to mislead the people? When have we ever stated that we will give land to them? The land will be given to the SMB and the SMB will take necessary action in regards to the employees of the board. I have seen their statement that if we can’t hand over the issue to VPP. What will they do when they don’t even know the A and B or don’t even know anything, they try to mislead the people of the state.”

“Enough is enough. People understand very well and I urge these leaders not to misunderstand and not to mislead the people of the state,” he added.
