SHILLONG: Two persons suspected to be supporters of the National People’s Party (NPP) were picked up by police after they were alleged to have distributed money in Wahingdoh area under Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah constituency on Wednesday morning.

When contacted, Superintendent of Police (City) SA Rynjah said that the two were picked up and kept at Lumdiengjri police station based on a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM).

He said though there is no exact prove but as per video clips provided by the complainant, the two were alleged to have made payment but whether it is for election or for what it is yet to know. The FIR also alleged that the two persons are supporters of the NPP.

“However we still have to investigate and find out,” the SP said while adding that action will only be taken after consulting with the returning officer concerned.
