In a shocking turn of events, two persons accused of committing murders in separate incidents on June 16 have surrendered to the police in West Jaintia Hills District.

One murder case took place in Sahsniang A village, under the jurisdiction of Raliang Police Station, while another case was under Jowai Police Station.

Police said that on June 17, 2024, Nidaiohi Suchiang (29) from Sahsniang A village appeared at Jowai Police Station and confessed to killing his neighbour, Drup Sutnga. Suchiang admitted to assaulting Sutnga with a sharp object and subsequently wrapping a bamboo strap around his neck to simulate a suicide. Suchiang claimed that he committed the murder because he believed Sutnga practiced witchcraft, which he blamed for causing his wife’s illness.

After receiving this information, officers from Raliang Police Station immediately proceeded to Sahsniang A village to verify. An inquest conducted on Sutnga’s body confirmed multiple cut injuries, consistent with Suchiang’s confession.

In another murder, Do Dkhar (33) surrendered to the police after allegedly murdering Nangtei Dkhar, also from Lumkhudung Village.

According to the FIR filed by Nangtei’s relatives, the victim was stabbed with a knife around 4 pm on June 16 at Lumkhudung Pohshrah. Despite efforts by his family to rush him to the hospital, Nangtei succumbed to his injuries en route to Moodymmai.

Both cases have been registered and police investigations is on.
