A locality in Dong Pahar, Umkiang village, East Jaintia Hills District, has been grappling with a severe electricity crisis for the past two months. The issue began on April 20, 2024, when the transformer suddenly failed, leaving the village without electricity.

Lasting Pala, Waheh Shnong of Umkiang Village, informed the SDO and Engineer of the MeECL in Moowakhu, who assured they would replace the transformer. However, no action has been taken yet, said Nicholas Lyngdoh, Secretary of the Dorbar Shnong Umkiang, in a statement on Friday.

Lyngdoh urged the MeECL to replace the malfunctioning transformer to ensure an uninterrupted power supply, which would greatly benefit the villagers.
