JOWAI: In a major blow to the Indian National Congress (INC) in the State, two Members of District Council of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) today abandoned the oldest political party and joined the upcoming political party in the country National People Party (NPP).

The joining of the two MDCs namely Arbor Hima Darnei representing Saipung Constituency and Aiborlang Shadap from Barato-Mukroh Constituency reduced the strength of the INC in JHADC from four MDC to two MDCs in the house of 30 MDCs.

Darnei and Shadap were accorded formal welcome to the party by State NPP President Dr. W Kharlukhi in the presence of State Minister Comingone Ymbon, JHADC Chief Executive Member and MDCs at the residence of District President and MDC Octomewot Lamin in Mih Myntdu, Jowai this afternoon.

With the joining of Darnei and Shadap, the total numbers of NPP in JHADC has now rose to 17 from 15 while the UDP has seven MDC  and the opposition bench comprised of four BJP MDCs who deserted the UDP on September this year and two Congress MDCs.
