Two HNLC cadres surrender after 15 months of menial work, say they were misled

Two cadres of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), Dibarius Jyrwa (32) and Ridor Lyngdoh Nonglait (30), both hailing from Eastern West Khasi Hills District, surrendered before the Superintendent of Police in Mairang on June 26, 2025.
According to police, during preliminary interviews, both the cadres claimed they were misguided by Samuel Wahlang Pahsyntiew to join the HNLC and together all fled to Bangladesh. Pahsyntiew is wanted in connection with Shillong Sadar Police Station Case No. 80(03)2024 U/S 120(B)/121A/307/324 IPC R/W Section 10/13/16/18 of UA(P) Act and Section 3(a)/3(b)/5/6 of Explosive Substance Act (Shillong Syndicate Bus Stand IED Blast Case).
Police said that two youths revealed that they were associated with the HNLC and were assigned to perform menial tasks, including cultivation related tasks, which according to them was far-fetched from the cause of the organisation’s propaganda.
Police said that they were disillusioned and dissatisfied with the tasks assigned to them for more than 15 months in the hands of the senior cadres of HNLC.
Police also said that they decided to run away from Bangladesh on the 20th June, 2025, with an intention to return to the mainstream of society and have sincerely regretted joining the proscribed HNLC.
Police said the surrenderees have been interviewed, their statements recorded and they have been placed at a secured location pending further necessary action.
