  • Two buried to death while Shillong Pynursla Dawki highway remained cut-off

    After over 24 hours of hectic rescue work, the bodies of Wahlyngkhat Rangbah Shnong Seiborlang Jaktung and his friend were recovered from a deep gorge after their vehicle Datsun RediGo MLO5 T 7892 was crushed under debris of boulders and earth in a landslide Rngain, Pynursla NH-40, where road construction was under progress.

    It may be recalled on Friday evening two vehicles viz one Datsun RediGo MLO5 T 7892 and Mahindra Bolero ML06A 3026 were buried under the heavy debris of boulders and earth on Friday’s evening due to occurrence of landslide.

    Immediately, it was reported that two persons were feared to be buried under debris as they could not get out of their vehicles.

    According to police, the said Mahindra Bolero sustained damages and it was driven by Evernus Mylliem Pdah of Mawiapbang with 8 other passengers.

    However, only 5 (five) passengers including the driver were taken to Pynursla CHC for medical examination and were later released after first aid

    The road was cut off by big boulders and efforts are on to restored vehicular movement.

    Taking stock of the situation, Deputy Chief Minister and Pynursla MLA Prestone Tynsong conducted a spot inspection of the place of occurrence.

    He was highly disappointed with the NHIDCL for not having any contingent plans to deal with such eventuality to the extent that Tynsong asked the NHIDCL “do you have brain”.

    Tynsong also directed the NHIDCL officials to take the assistance of IIT Guwahati.

    Meanwhile, the Pynursla SDO (Civil) informed that NH-40 Shillong-Dawki road is cut off at Rngain area due to landslide that happened on Friday.

    Further, commuters are appealed to exercise due caution while commuting especially during the night as then is every likelihood of further landslides in the area.
