Two arrested in East Jaintia Hills with 10 kg marijuana and narcotics

Two persons have been arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force of East Jaintia Hills District Police during a naka operation under Lumshnong Police Station in the early hours of Tuesday.
The arrested have been identified as Amol Nath (42) of Sundari Part-III, Silchar, Cachar, Assam, and Radika Ranjan Das of Bamonchora village, Komalpur PS, Dholai district, Tripura.
Following the arrests, a search conducted in the presence of independent witnesses under Section 50 of the NDPS Act led to the recovery of 10.35 kg of marijuana, 2,736 tramadol hydrochloride capsules, 6,000 nitrazepam tablets and two mobile phones from their possession.
Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills, Vikash Kumar, IPS, said based on credible intelligence, the team intercepted an MTC night bus from Silchar to Shillong around 4:00 AM on August 19. The two arrested individuals are suspected to be part of a larger organised crime syndicate.
The SP appealed that if anyone has information about other miscreants involved in this illegal act, they are requested to inform the local Police Station. Their identity will be kept secret and a suitable reward will be given.
A case has been registered at Lumshnong Police Station under the NDPS Act, and investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages.
