Two arrested, heroin seized in East Jaintia Hills

Two persons were arrested along with heroin in East Jaintia Hills District on Sunday.

Based on credible input regarding transportation of contrabands from Silchar side to Shillong side special naka was put up at Umtyra Check point, district SP Jagpal Singh Dhanao said.

Seeing the intensive checking of vehicles two LMVs tried to run backwards. 

Both of them were chased down and items have been seized, he said.

He informed that Pynhoi Nongtdu (35) from Pohshnong,Nartiang, West Jaintia Hills and Banteilang Mynsong (23) from Pdengshnong, Mawryngkneng, East Khasi Hills were arrested from Maruti Dezire bearing registration number ML 05 N 9889.

Heroin weighing 326 gms (commercial quantity) has been seized alongside two mobile phones from their possession.

Another Maruti Dezire AS 11 T 1645 which was found abandoned under khliehriat PS jurisdiction and from this vehicles 13 illegal cigarettes cartons have been seized . 

“We are still on lookout for occupants of this vehicle,” the SP said.

It was a joint operation of EJHD ANTF under DSP Bidhan Bhattachrjee and Anti Infiltration of Umtyra CP.

Two separate cases are being registered at the Khliehriat police station.
