    In an effort to ensure efficacy, reach, and success of Central schemes in the district, Member of Parliament, 2-Tura constituency, Saleng A Sangma on Wednesday, chaired and reviewed the status of implementation of these schemes by the line departments under South West Garo Hills, their achievements as well as challenges at the District Development Coordination & Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting which was held at the DRDA Conference Hall at Ampati.

    The MP & DISHA Chairman, was accompanied by DISHA members including U.G. Sangma, Simberth Ch Marak, Learmilford A Sangma and Manseng D. Sangma among others during the review.

    Deputy Commissioner, Hema Nayak and ADC & PD, DRDA, RZD Shira along with other officials of the District Administration gave their support and assistance to the MP in the day-long review meeting, during which the district officers of various line departments presented reports on the status of projects implemented in the district through their respective departments, highlighting their achievements, challenges, as well as future plans.

    The MP while assuring his support and to take up the concerns with the relevant ministries, said that it was the duty of the implementing departments and their officers to sensitize the people in the grassroots to ensure that the benefit of government schemes reaches every citizen.

    In his review, the MP addressed issues like increase in IMR, anaemia cases in the district, supply of medicines and also sought to know the requirement in Ampati Civil Hospital; raised concern over frequent power outages in the district and asked MePDCL to study what power project can be taken up in the district to address the issue; questioned if ICDS department has moved for increasing the wages of Anganwadi workers and helpers as the present rate is below Labour norms and also discussed how to increase yield of foodgrains by Agriculture department, among other issues.

    While applauding the Fisheries department for surplus fish production in the district, he suggested the department to consider ways export surplus fish to other parts of the state as well to other states.
