Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inspected the ongoing construction of Tura Medical College on Monday and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work.

He informed that efforts are being made to complete the construction and operationalise the medical college by the next academic session.

“Close to 80 percent of the civil work has been completed. The progress is satisfactory, and we are optimistic that a major portion of the college infrastructure will be ready within this calendar year,” the chief minister said.

He informed that the government is actively reviewing the pace of construction to ensure that targets are met in a timely manner. “We are making every effort to start the academic session at Tura Medical College as early as possible,” he added.

The Chief Minister also informed that the government is exploring partnerships for the management and operation of the medical college, while stating that the ownership of the college will remain with the government.

“Tura Medical College will primarily serve the students of Meghalaya. A majority of the seats will be reserved for students from the state, ensuring better access to medical education for our youth,” he said.
