Trio, including minor girl, nabbed for snatching earrings from two children in Shillong

Three persons including a 16-year-old girl were apprehended for their involvement in recently stealing earrings from two minor girls in the city.

One CCL female 16 yrs 9 months, Mabanker Jyrwa (23) from Jaiaw, Lansonalane and Charles Myrthong (20 yrs) of Riatsamthiah were apprehended by Mawlai Police, East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said on Sunday.

The stolen articles have been recovered, on being led by the CCL and accused from Mawbah, New Oscar Jewellers Shop and seized accordingly, he added.

The action was taken after two FIRs were filed on June 18 and 20.

Elinda Marbaniang, a resident of Mawlai Nongkwar Block that on 18.6.2025 between 1:30 PM to 2 PM, while her 9-year-old daughter was coming from school one female followed her from the footpath steps at Wahumkhrah and asked her daughter whether she knows any Adrian who is in class III for which she replied in the negative.

The female then followed her upto Mawlai Nongkwar Block-2 and then touched the girl’s ear, forcefully removing an earring and fled away.

Sumardiam Kharlukhi of Mawlai Nonglum also filed an FIR informing that on 20/6/2025, between 4.00PM to 4.30PM, three unknown persons, one female and two males, approached her house while her 9-year-old daughter was playing outside. The female then forcefully cut off her right earring and fled away.
