Tree falls, blocks Shillong–Jowai highway

A large tree fell across the entire width of the Shillong–Jowai National Highway early this morning, June 19, completely blocking traffic near the JHADC Forest Beat House at Mookyndur.

The incident was caused by strong winds and rain, leading to a traffic jam that lasted for some time. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.

Commuters and local residents have urged the PWD (Roads) and the Forest Department to regularly identify and remove weak or decaying trees along the highway to prevent such hazards and ensure public safety.
