    Hubert B Marak, IAS, District Magistrate, South Garo Hills imposed Section 144 Cr. P.C strictly prohibiting the movements of cattle loaded vehicles on the stretch of NH 217(old number NH-62) from

    Dimapara to Baghmara and on the stretch of State PWD Road from Baghmara to Moheshkhola at all times both during the day time an day and night time.

    The order was issued based on information that cattle is being transported through NH 217 (old number NH-62) from Dimapra to Baghmara and along the state PWD Road from Baghmara to Moheshkola.

    The transportation of cattle along these roads have increased considerably which is evident by the large number of cattle being seized by the BSF and District Police Force.

    The cattle are being transported for illegally smuggling across the International Border. In spite of the order Dated 20 February, 2020, it has been reported that smuggling of cattle has been going on now during the day and night time.

    “If the illegal transportation of cattle is not checked, it will seriously affect the economy of the area and also it will cause huge loss of revenue to the Government.  They wil also encourage other illegal activities by anti-social elements who are invohved in this illegal act and such activities are also likely to cause annoyance and disturb the peace and tranquility of the area,” the order said.

    The order will come into force with immediate effect till 28 April, 2020.
