The Meghalaya Transport Department on Friday led a crucial review meeting in partnership with Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy, Delhi, alongside representatives from the Power Department, Transport Officials, Renewable Energy Development Agency, and Meghalaya Electricity Corporation Limited (MeECL).

This gathering aimed to delve into the crucial amendments to Meghalaya’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, marking a significant stride towards adopting sustainable transportation solutions in the region.

During discussions, stakeholders agreed on amendments to enhance various aspects of the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem. These encompass supply-side initiatives such as incentivizing electric vehicle R&D facilities, enhancing skill development programs in the EV sector, establishing battery recycling units, and expanding public charging stations and battery swapping stations.

Meanwhile, demand-side incentives target electric vehicle/fleet operators.  Moreover, plans are in place to retrofit internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles into EVs, marking significant progress towards sustainable transportation.

The Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE), in collaboration with the Meghalaya Transport Department, Don Bosco Technical School (DBTS) and Barefoot Trust, Shillong, has launched a report on skill development and inclusive growth opportunities in India’s electric vehicle (EV) sector.

The report offers a comprehensive analysis of skill development opportunities within India’s growing EV ecosystem. It highlights the significant shift towards electric mobility and the need for a skilled workforce to support this transition.

Furthermore, the report emphasizes the importance of holistic skill development, for the inclusion of marginalized communities and women to ensure an inclusive growth trajectory for the EV sector.
