    An awareness cum training programme on “Sugarcane cultivation and Agroforestry” was organized by Assam Agriculture University (AAU)-Sugarcane, Medicinal & Aromatic Plants Research Station (AAU-SMAPRS), Buralikson, Golaghat under the Tribal Sub-plan scheme of AICRP on Sugarcane at AAU-Zonal Research Station (AAU-ZRS), Diphu on Friday.

    The programme was organized in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Karbi Anglong. In the inaugural session, Dr TP Saikia, chief scientist, AAU-SMAPRS welcomed the invited guests and the farmers which was followed by speech by Dr KD Singh, chief scientist of AAU-ZRS and Raju Deka, district agricultural officer, Karbi Anglong.

    The training programme on different aspects of sugarcane cultivation, agroforestry, integrated farming system, seed production and certification were conducted by the scientists of AAU-SMAPRS viz., Dr DD Singha, Dr TP Saikia, Ajoy Kumar Bora and Dr Tridib Borborah, respectively.

    A farmers-scientist interaction programme was also held on the occasion where the scientists replied to different queries of the farmers. The day-long programme ended with the distribution of saplings of Guava, Mahgony, Titachapa and Sissoo to farmers for planting in their homestead gardens. More than 90 farmers participated in the awareness programme.
