Traders and Dealers must display prices of essential items

The Deputy Commissioner (Supply) of East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat on Friday directed all traders and open market dealers to prominently display a price list board showcasing all essential items available in their stores.

This order has been put in place to safeguard the interests of consumers and the general public, prevent untoward inflation of essential commodities, and avoid manipulation.

The order stated, ‘It is mandatory that all traders and open market dealers put up and clearly display a price list board of all essential items available in their stores. The price list board should be properly displayed for easy viewing by consumers.’

If there is any deviation from this direction, defaulters will attract stringent action as per provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
