Students of the Tura Polytechnic College are at the receiving end as they have to spend up to Rs 15000 to buy water due to the severe water crisis faced by their respective hostels.

According to them, the college authority has chosen to turn a deaf ear despite several letters being submitted to the Principal of the institute.

On Wednesday, the Tura Polytechnic Students’ Union (TPSU) sought the immediate intervention of the Director of Higher and Technical Education (DHTE) into irregular and inadequate supply of water in the hostels.

“It’s been more than a month since our classes had started, we are facing this issue (water crisis). Almost Rs 15,000 we’ve spent in buying water and currently we are facing a challenge in managing both the mess expenses and water,” the union said in its letter of complaint.

“Inadequate supply of water disrupting various daily activities such as personal hygiene, drinking, cooking, laundry and cleaning our living spaces,” it said.

Further, the union said that the absence of the Head of the Institution in the Institute disengaged the students to address this matter.

“The above issue had been addressed to the principal since February 19 but unfortunately no action has been taken,” it said.
