    JOWAI: With a view to reaching out to MSE entrepreneurs and more specifically micro Enterprises, the Reserve Bank of India (RB), Shillong conducted a Town Hall meeting on Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) today at Shangpung village West Jaiñtia Hills District.

    Attended by officials from Directorate of Commerce & Industries, Govt. of Meghalaya, SIDBI, NRLM, KVIC, RESTI, public and private sector banks besides 300 entrepreneurs from Shangpung area.

    The objectives of conducting Town Hall meetings in unbanked and underbanked areas are to create awareness of banking facilities amongst the entrepreneurs in such areas to link the unbanked entrepreneurs to the formal banking system, to get a feedback on the problems being faced by such enterprises in accessing bank finance etc. and creating a base for a two way communication amongst the stakeholders.

    Anurag Asthana, GM (OIc), RBI Shillong in his keynote address highlighted the various enabling measures taken by RBl to faciltate the growth of MSMEs in the country.

    Officials from banks and financial institutions addressed the participants on various initiatives in the field of MSME and encouraged the existing as well as to be entrepreneurs of the state. Presentations from RBl, SIDBl and DCIC focused on the enabling policy measures, Government initiatives as well as available MSME products in the banks for the benefit of participants.

    At the meeting a few local entrepreneurs shared their success story to motivate budding entrepreneurs who were present and loan sanction letters were also handed over to few entrepreneurs. During the open panel discussion participants raised their doubts in

    Connection with credit provided by bank, rate of interest charged in case of sponsored schemes, various schemes available in the banks and other Government agencies which were clarified by the concerned officials.

    Sanction letter where given to Kamwadamut SHG for amount of Rs.2 lakhs, Stering Sungoh, vehicle loan, Tur Shaphrang SHG amount of Rs. 1.5lakh and Samina Lapasam amount Rs. 30 thousand for second hand clothes.
