Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal said on Friday said tough decisions are being taken to reduce the AT&C losses.

Speaking to reporters, Mondal said, “We are very much working in this direction and I can tell you that this current financial year, there is improvement as far as AT&C losses are concerned. We will try to see that we can achieve the national average which is a tough job…”

He said the percentage of the AT&C losses in Garo Hills may be quite high but “it is our duty to reduce it at the earliest possible”.

On the power scenario in the state, Mondal said the State is in a comfortable position despite the fact that the whole country is reeling under power crisis and that neighboring States are also facing the heat.

“As far as we are concerned, as of now, we are comfortable. We have decided that only 2 hours power cuts will be there in the major towns and the rest of the State will have only 3 hours power cut. Of course in some pockets or some areas, it may be more than that because of the shutdown required for maintenance work because of tripping but generally we will have 2 hours in major towns and 3 hours in other areas,” he said.

Meanwhile, the minister also informed that the government is contemplating to go for aerial bunched cables in areas where there is a lot of power theft.
