  • Total lockdown in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills extended till May 24

    The Meghalaya government has decided to further extend the total lockdown in East Khasi Hills to May 24.

    “The governemnt has decided to again extend the lockdown period which is supposed to end on May 17, for another one week, meaning the lockdown will be extended up to 5 am of May 24,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters after a daily review meeting. 

    He said the decision was taken on the basis of the detailed report received from East Khasi Hills and the entire state. 

    “Therefore, the government has no option but to extend the lockdown for the safety of the citizens in the state,” Tynsong said while appealing to all citizens to strictly follow the protocols issued by the health department. 

    The other decisions taken during the review meetings are:- Oxygen generator in Shillong civil hospital of 6 units will be installed and will be made functional latest by next week. 

    Oxygen generators for 3 district headquarters for Tura, Jowai and Nongpoh are already on the way and will be arriving within a week’s time.

    The commissioning of these oxygen generators will be made functional by the first week of June.

    Cluster or Community Isolation Centres will be created in every district of the state. These centres will cater to positive cases who are asymptomatic or falls under category A and B.
