A disturbing allegation of abuse of power has surfaced from Assam’s Dima Hasao district, where Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), Debolal Gorlosa, is accused of threatening a government contractor with death. The contractor, Ruponjit Langthasa, claims he is now in hiding after receiving life-threatening warnings directly from Gorlosa.

Langthasa, a Class I PWD (Roads) contractor from Kasamaipur under Maibang police station, filed an FIR via email to Maibang police on July 8. In his complaint, he detailed how an unknown man approached his home around 12:40 PM on June 11, 2025, appearing nervous. Sensing danger, Langthasa discreetly recorded the interaction using his mobile phone.

The man eventually entered his home and handed Langthasa a phone, stating that Debolal Gorlosa wanted to speak with him. Langthasa recognized Gorlosa’s voice and recorded the conversation, which he later submitted as evidence.

In the recorded call, Gorlosa allegedly issued chilling threats: “Start counting your days in this world… Your parents will not even find your body to cry over.”

“Do not take me for a fool… We have been tracing you and your fake account since January.”

“Let me see who saves you… You want to fight me, right?” He also asked whether the cabinet minister from Dima Hasao in Himanta Biswa Sarma’s cabinet, Nandita Garlosa could save him.

Gorlosa accused Langthasa of operating a fake social media account named ‘Dima Hasao’, engaging in photo editing, and spreading false information. Langthasa denied all allegations, stating that he had no connection to the account or any such activities.

The unknown man who delivered the phone was later identified as Thaodesh Langthasa, reportedly a resident of Didambra who was then living in Dilur Phonglo.

Fearing for his life, Ruponjut Langthasa fled the district and has been moving between various locations, including Guwahati. He claims that Gorlosa’s history as an ex-militant with multiple allegations against him—including kidnapping—makes the threat even more serious. He also alleges that the Dima Hasao Superintendent of Police (SP) is complicit in tracking him alongside Gorlosa, as mentioned in the recorded conversation.

Despite the gravity of the complaint and the existence of a recorded threat, police have yet to register a formal case as of this report.

This incident raises serious concerns over law and order in Dima Hasao and the unchecked power allegedly wielded by high-ranking officials.

In the last week, leaders and workers of Dima Hasao District BJP staged a sit-in-demonstration in front of the DC office demanding the ouster of Debolal Gorlosa from the post of CEM.
