HSPDP leader and cabinet minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar on Tuesday categorically denied that he had rejected the letter given by the Sur Ki Nong Mawlai for supporting the demand to suspend the cops in connection with the alleged gunning down of the former HNLC leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew on August 13.

“I have not rejected the signing of the letter but respectfully I have requested them to understand that I am from the government, I am a minister and that if anything that I do or we do, there is no point to do alone since we are together in the government. I have requested them to give me time to discuss with my colleagues in the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) and after that if we sign, we will all sign together,” Tongkhar told reporters.

He said that he has never rejected that letter given by the Sur Ki Nong Mawlai. “That letter is still very much with me and I respect the feelings of the people, the leaders of the Sur ki Nong Mawlai and the people of the state who are equally concerned about the unfortunate incident which we do not want to happen again. Therefore, I want to clarify that I am with the people but the only thing is that we are in the government and that we have to take a collective decision so that whatever we do, we are responsible for anything that will be done by the government,” Tongkhar stated.
