TNAI West Jaintia Hills celebrates Nurses Day at Northeast Adventist University

The Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), West Jaintia Hills District, celebrated International Nurses Day on May 12 at Northeast Adventist University, Khliehtyrshi, under the global theme “Our Nurses, Our Future: Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies.”
The programme was graced by Darry Gretta Kharshiing, Chief Judicial Magistrate, as Chief Guest. Also present on the occssion Dr. Heimonmi Niang, Block Development Officer, Thadlaskein C&RD Block, and Larista Dohling, Principal of the School of Nursing, Pahamsyiem, Nongpoh, and General Secretary of TNAI, Meghalaya State Branch.
The celebration began with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries, symbolizing the light of knowledge, compassion, and dedication that nurses bring to the healthcare profession.
In her address, Darry Gretta Kharshiing lauded the nursing fraternity for their unwavering commitment, resilience, and invaluable contributions to both the healthcare sector and society. She highlighted that the year’s theme underscores the vital role nurses play—not just in delivering essential healthcare, but also in contributing to economic stability and growth. “Nurses deserve respect, recognition, and continued support, as their well-being directly impacts the strength and resilience of our healthcare system,” she said.
Larista Dohling shared reflections on the roots of modern nursing, emphasizing that nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system and a source of strength for communities. She traced the history of nursing from ancient civilizations to the present, describing it as a profession built on a legacy of compassion, care, and professionalism.
Dr. Heimonmi Niang also spoke on the occasion, commending the tireless efforts and dedication of nurses in advancing the healthcare system.

Delivering the keynote address, Suzy Lewis Chen, Vice Principal of the School of Nursing, Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital, Jowai, emphasized the indispensable role of nurses. She reiterated that nurses are not only caregivers but also serve as the pillars of the healthcare infrastructure.
As a gesture of gratitude, TNAI West Jaintia Hills presented mementos of appreciation to retired nurses in recognition of their years of selfless service.




Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Bailinda Dkhar, Principal and Associate Professor, NEACON, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Lubih Kyndiah, Nursing Superintendent, Jowai Civil Hospital, Ialong. The programme was chaired by Phiralynn Kharkongor, Assistant Professor, NEACON.
