    Meghalaya Police on Monday this week arrested a gang of three residents of Assam for their involvement in several incidents of armed robbery in North Garo Hills District.

    According to Superintendent of Police North Garo Hills, Pawar Swapnil Vasantrao, IPS, the recent armed robbery occurred on the evening of June 18, this year where 4 (four) unknown armed miscreants on an Aprilia Scooty AS18J-0181 and Bajaj Pulsar 220 (black) AS18 E-7925 robbed innocent citizens at gun point. The robbers managed to rob an amount of Rs. 80,000/-, (Rupees eighty thousand), personal documents along with 2 (two) mobile phones with SIM cards.

    Vasantrao informed that on the evening of the same day, the villagers of Beldongpara, PO Choto Matia, PS Krishnai, Goalpara, Assam intercepted and detained the Scooty and Pulsar 220 (black) bike used in the commission of the crime at Beldonpara village. However, the rider and pillion managed to escape and the recovered bike was handed over to Mendipathar Police Station and was duly seized.

    The SP of North Garo Hills District said on June, 19 an FIR was lodged by the victims and Mendipathar Police Station Case No. 09(06)2024 U/s 392 IPC, R/w Sec. 25(IA)(IB) Arms Act was registered against the armed robbers.

    Vasantrao informed a search operation was launched and led by Dy SP, Special Ops and his team from North Garo Hills DEF in the suspected hide out in the neighbouring areas of Assam.

    He further informed on June 24 this year Sunil Boro, 33 yrs, S/o (L) Rajendra Boro, R/o Upper Borgum, PO/PS Dudhnoi, Dist. Goalpara, Assam was arrested from Dhupdhara PS jurisdiction along with the scooty used during the commission of the crime.

    However, co-accused namely Kaltu Rabha, Turti Basumatary and Sahadev Basumatary all from Dudhnoi area of Assam managed to escaped.

    Due to intense search operation conducted by the operation team, North Garo Hills, Meghalaya, on Monday, one of the co-accused namely Turti Baumatary, H/o Rita Basumatary, R/o Buglamari, PO Lela, PS Dudhnoi, Goalpara, Assam surrendered before the North Garo Hills Police along with one semi-automatic pistol with 2 (two) live rounds and on his leading co-accused Sahadev Basumatary was arrested from Assam-Meghalaya border near Tikrikilla, West Garo Hills.

    Search operation is still going on to arrest the other co-accused person.
