    SHILLONG: Three persons were arrested on Thursday after contraband items were seized from their possession in East Jaintia Hills District.     

    This came after heavy checking on all commercial vehicles plying through the district was conducted by the police. 

    East Jaintia Hills superintendent of police Vivekanand Singh said at around 2 am on Thursday, one night super bus bearing registration number AS-01JC-0979 travelling from Agartala towards Guwahati was intercepted at Khliehriat. 

    He said during checking, contraband items suspected to be Ganja weighing approximately 21 Kgs was recovered from two bags belonging to two passengers travelling in the said bus. 

    Both the passengers identified as Dharanveer Ray (33) and Prince Ray (18) have been arrested. A case was registered with the Khliehriat police station under the NDPS Act.

    During preliminary interrogation, they revealed that they purchased Ganja from Agartala and were taking it to Bihar for sale, the SP said. 

    Earlier on Wednesday evening, one Dashwanmiki Lamare (30), who was travelling in a commercial Tata sumo taxi (ML-04A-5229), was also arrested after 0.74 grams of suspected heroin and 260 mg of Nitrazepam tablets were recovered from his possession. 

    The sumo was on its way from Digorkhal towards Ladrymbai and it was intercepted in Byndihati village. Lamare revealed that he purchased the items from Kalain, Assam for self-use as well as sale.
