    A sea of people joined Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s roadshow braving the adverse weather conditions in Titabar in support of Congress candidate from Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency, Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday.

    Priyanka landed a Jorhat Airport at around 11.45 am from where he proceeded to Titabor to lead the roadshow.

    Immediately after arrival, Gandhi was taken to a vehicle decorated with flower, where the workers and the supporters of the Congress party. 

    In her 15-minute speech, Priyanka Gandhi lashed out at the BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and said the BJP-led government indulged in largescale corruption and price hike which have crippled the normal life of the common people of the country.

    “Instead of the politics of values, the BJP-led government has created an environment of divisive mentality by creating unrest in the country through caste discrimination and religious polarization. In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the people of the country have decided with courage in their hearts and determination to oust the BJP from power this time,” she said. 

    “The people understand that if the BJP is put back in power this time, the self-sacrifice of the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country will be in vain and the Constitution written at the expense of the martyrs will be threatened,” she said. 

     “But the Congress party is determined that the Congress will protect the Constitution of the country and every person will have the right to live with equal dignity based on the Constitution,” Congress leader said.

    “The minimum wage increase for tea workers in Assam, granting of ST status to six ethnic groups and the Citizenship Amendment Act would be repealed as soon as the government changes at the Centre,” she added. 

    Accompanied by more than 10,000 people, Gandhi led a three-km-long roadshow from Titabar Tinali to Titabor Na-ali.

    She also visited Rajiv Bhawan in Titabar and paid tribute to the portrait of former chief minister Tarun Gogoi.

    Earlier, in his welcome address, Gaurav Gogoi highlighted several burning issues of the state and said the ethnic issues of the state would be resolved if the Congress formed the government in the Centre this time.

    Gogoi assured that ST status will be accorded to six communities of the state, wages of tea garden labourers be hiked and the hike in essential commodities.

    Gogoi said he was impressed by the unprecedented support of the people of Tittaborn for the Congress despite the adverse weather conditions and the people of Tittabor indicated a change in the political landscape of the country. 

    Gogoi said the late chief minister Tarun Gogoi was a simple man with a clean and beautiful mind in the political history of the Congress. 

    Priyanka was welcomed by cultural troupes of various tribes on her way to Titaabar Na-ali. 

    Around 2 pm, Priyanka left Titabar for Jorhat Airport to fly to Agartala for an election campaign.

    AICC general secretary Jitendra Singh, Assam Pradesh Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah, AICC general secretary Alaka Lamba, MLAs Bhaskarjyoti Baruah and Sibamoni Bpora were also the prominent leaders who took part in the roadshow.
