A new Assamese feature film “The Mirage” premiered at Rudra Singha Auditorium at Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio here on April 6.

The film, directed by Bikash Mochahary and produced by Sarubala Devi with Anamika Baruah as executive producer, offers a poignant exploration into the harsh realities faced by the youths ensnared in the insurgency.

The Mirage navigates the intricate complexities of loyalty, disillusionment and the human cost of armed resistance in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.

Set against the backdrop of political unrest and personal turmoil, the story offers a poignant exploration of the human spirit’s silence in the shadowy realms of conflict and adversity.

The cast includes actors such as Gunakar Dev Goswami, Jolly Laskar, Siddhartha Mukherjee and Navajeet Konwar among others, The Mirage delves into the origins of Jagat, a youth disillusioned by the pervasive corruption hindering his aspirations for a government job. Driven to desperation, he joined a banned organization, enduring harsh training in a Myanmar camp where the grim reality of cadre life and abject living conditions weigh heavily on his conscience.

The film offers a thought-provoking narrative that highlights the complexities of the insurgent issue.

The film is likely to be released later this year. It is believed that the film will make a significant impact on Assamese movies and spark important conversations surrounding the insurgency issue in the Northeast.
