SHILLONG:  History was made on Saturday, when the Quran – Holy Book of the Muslims was translated into Khasi language.

The translation of the Quran was initiated by the Seng Bhalang Islam, an organisation that caters to the welfare of the Muslims who belong to the Khasi indigenous tribe.

Mubarak Lyngdoh, President of The Seng Bhalang Khasi informed that it took the team around 12 years to complete the translation.

“We hope that with the Quran now translated into Khasi it will be easier for our people to learn the Holy Book,” Lyngdoh said.

It may be mentioned that the translation of the Quran was taken up by the Seng Bhalang Islam Editorial Board which consisted of MA Haider as the Chief Editor and Compiler, Dilawar Swer and Akhtar H Shabong as joint editors and Mubarak Lyngdoh, Plistina Khongwir, Alphanur Nongsiej, Rosida Syiemlieh and Siraj Nongbri as sub-editors.

After the translated version was compiled by the Seng Bhalang Islamic Editorial Board it was revised by experts in the language that included eminent journalist Sumar Sing Sawian, Bakhia Rynjah, Ibajanai Wanniang and Barihun Marthong.
