  • “Take away Home portfolio from me,” Rymbui requests Chief Minister

    In face saving exercise, Lakmen Rymbui on Sunday evening requested the Chief Minister to relinquish him from the portfolio of Home department.
    In a letter to the Chief Minister, Rymbui expressed shock o the incident where (L) Chesterfield Thangkhiew was killed following the raid of police at his residence exceeding the lawful tenets of the law on 13th August, last.

    Thangkhiew who was End Stage Renal disease patient requiring regular dialysis was shot death by a team of police personnel led by SP East Jaintia Hills and SP Traffic, East Khasi Hills during a raid at 3am morning in Thangkhiew’s residence.

    Considering the gravity of the situation, Rymbui said ” I would to request you to relieve the Home (Police) Department from me with immediate effect. This will
    facilitate free and fair enquiry taken by the government to bring out the truth of the incident.”

    In attempt to appease the people, Rymbui also proposed judicial enquiry to be conducted into the 13/8 incident.
