Suspension footbridge inaugurated over Amsngad River at Ratacherra

In a major step to improve connectivity for villagers in border areas, Sutnga–Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla on June 17 inaugurated a suspension footbridge over the Amsngad River at Ratacherra village in East Jaintia Hills District.
The project, funded by the State Government under the Inter-State Border Areas Development Programme (ISBADP) 2023–24, aims to ease travel and transport challenges, particularly for residents of Saitual village and nearby areas.
During the inauguration programme, MLA Santa Mary Shylla praised the joint efforts of the villagers and the office of the Border Areas Development Officer (BADO), Khliehriat, for successfully completing the project. She said the footbridge would significantly improve daily movement for those living in remote border villages and strengthen links between communities.

She also noted that the bridge would provide easier access for people from Saitual to nearby villages including Ratacherra, Umkiang, and others.
Speaking on the occasion, the headman of Ratacherra village, Pynkhlain Dhar, expressed appreciation for the implementation of the project. He said that earlier, villagers from both Ratacherra and Saitual faced major difficulties in crossing the river, especially for farming activities, but the new bridge would bring an end to these challenges.
