To tackle childhood mortality and morbidity caused by diarrhoeal diseases, the District Medical & Health Officer (DM&HO), East Jaintia Hills, launched the District Level Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2025 under the theme “Prevent Diarrhoea, Take Care of Yourself, Use ORS and Maintain Cleanliness” at Rymbai PHC on July 2.

The programme, aimed at involving communities and health workers in raising awareness on diarrhoea prevention and treatment, was attended by DM&HO Dr Dominic Shylla, Rymbai PHC in-charge Dr L. Kharnaior, Health Educator D. Kshiar, NHM officials, ASHAs and residents of Rymbai.

In his address, Dr Shylla stressed the need to sensitize communities on preventing diarrhoea in children under five. He highlighted the critical role of ORS, Zinc, breastfeeding for infants under six months, and proper sanitation practices such as drinking boiled water and consuming healthy food.

Health Educator Kshiar spoke on the causes, signs, and symptoms of diarrhoea, underlining the importance of hygiene and cleanliness. She demonstrated proper handwashing techniques and urged ASHAs to take the message to their communities.
