    JOWAI: In a major sigh of relief to the vehicles owners of the State, the State Government has decided to allow all the retail outlets or Petrol Pump of Indian Oil Companies to set up Pollution Testing Station in their premises.

    This decision of the Government will be a blessing to the all the vehicle owners in the State especially in Shillong who recently have to queue in long line for obtaining pollution certificate in the lone pollution testing centre in the city located at Motinagar.

    The newly amended Motor Vehicle Act has prompted the vehicle owners to obtain pollution certificate as the Act made it mandatory for every vehicle to possess pollution certificate failing which they will be liable to a hefty fine.

    According to notification issued by State Transport Commissioner& Secretary issued vide No.TPT.79W2015/P/2 Dated the 23″ September, 2019, the State Governor allowed all the retail outlets of Indian Oil Companies to set up Pollution Testing Station in their premises.The notification informed that the license to set up Pollution Testing Station is to be obtained from the Commissioner of Transport and secondly adequate space is available in the premises to park vehicles for carrying out the pollution test.

    “Pollution testing machine is as per specifications by the competent authority,” the notification said.

    The Indian Oil Corporation will levy fee for pollution under control testing is as per approved rate by the Government of Meghalaya in Transport Department.

    The Government also made it mandatory for the Indian Oil Corporation that pollution under control testing certificate is issued to each vehicle after every test and the pollution Testing equipment is manned by the competent technical person as provided under Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and the Rules framed there under License issued is renewed in time.

    The notification informed that any other order that may be issued by the Government of Meghalaya in Transport Department from time to time.

    It also said that is in addition to but not in derogatory to the extant Rules and Regulations for setting up of private Pollution Testing stations with the permission of the Government of Meghalaya.
