Star Cement attacked after youth killed by company truck

Fifteen trucks were set on fire by furious mobs at Star Cement’s premises in Lumshnong, East Jaintia Hills District, following the death of a youth allegedly run over by one of the company’s trucks on May 18.

According to local sources, the youth was run over inside the company premises and sustained serious injuries. He succumbed to his injuries within a few hours of the incident.

After the incident, a group of local residents rushed to the premises and torched four to five trucks parked inside the Star Cement campus.
