The All Meghalaya SSA Non Teaching Staffs Association (AMSSANTSA) has demanded written assurance before calling off its ongoing indefinite sit-in-demonstration.

Speaking to reporters after attending a meeting chaired by Commissioner & Secretary Education Vijay Kumar Mantri, president of the AMSSANTSA Jennyfer Synrem said that there has been improvement in the discussion during the meeting held today.

“However, we want a written communication and for that reason we are not calling off the agitation as such. We will continue our agitation in a peaceful manner. Let us get the written assurance from the government, which they promised us within this week after which, we will call off our agitation,” she said.

Asked, the president of the association admitted that their demand for 80% salary enhancement is not justified.

“If we go by 80%, some of us will be getting Rs 80,000 and some will be getting only Rs 8000, which is not justified at all,” she said. She said “We are fighting for the betterment of everyone so we are taking into consideration each and every member of our association.”

She said that the association however is not accepting the government’s decision to enhance the salaries of the non-teaching staff by 25%.

Stating that there is need to rationalise the system, Synrem said, “We thank the government of Meghalaya for setting up this rationalisation commitee. I don’t think other organization would have get the chance to represent the staff member to sit along with the higher up and make the salary and form a committee so this is a history that we have made and that we are happy with the committee.”
