Rangdajied United and reigning champions Shillong Lajong were locked in a lively but goalless contest in their Shillong Premier League 2025 clash at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, on Monday.

The game saw plenty of end-to-end action, with both sides showing intensity and physicality, yet neither could capitalise on the chances created. This was the second draw of the new season and the first to finish without a goal.

Lajong had the upper hand over Rangdajied in 2024, defeating them in the SPL, Meghalaya State League, and Durand Cup. But on this occasion, both clubs—having undergone several personnel changes—struggled to find the back of the net.

Lajong were without key players from last season, including SPL 2024 top scorer Deibormame Tongper, alongside Yohaan Benjamin and Babysunday Marngar. Rangdajied also felt the absence of striker Owanijuh Pajuh.

Despite this, scoring chances were not lacking. Lajong twice hit the woodwork, while Rangdajied’s Manbhakupar Iawphniaw had an early free-kick miss the target and later forced a double save from SLFC goalkeeper Wanteilang Malngiang, who first blocked his shot on the run before denying Menangpyndap Khongjee on the rebound. Lajong also came close through Firstborn Khongsit and Ricky Kharkongor, both sending shots narrowly over in the second half.

With the first round of fixtures now complete, Mawlai, Nangkiew Irat and Malki lead with 3 points each. Four teams—Langsning, Mylliem, Rangdajied and Lajong—sit on 1 point, while Nongrim Hills, Sawmer and Laitkor are still without a point.

The league continues on Wednesday at 4:30pm when Nongrim Hills take on Sawmer, with both sides aiming to recover from opening defeats.
