Fresh tension has erupted in Khanduli village under West Jaintia Hills District but claimed to be a disputed area by Assam on Thursday leading to an unprecedented attack on a private vehicle of West Jaintia Hills SP C Syrti by angry mob of Karbi citizens in an act of retaliation to the assault of one Karbi citizen by the residents of Khanduli village.

According to local residents, the assault of the Karbi citizen was the fallout of an arson incident where two thatched huts belonging to people of Khanduli situated in paddy fields of Khanduli were set on fire by eight Karbi miscreants.

The Karbi miscreants along with other Karbi citizens intended to harm one resident of Khanduli who was present in the paddy field but slipped away from them.

Responding to his call of help, a group of Khanduli residents rushed to the spot and managed to assault and injured one Karbi citizen while the other Karbi ran away.

Syrti and police from Siatsama Outpost also reached Khanduli village to tame the situation.

In bid to quell the anger, the Khanduli Dorbar Shnong summoned the Dorbar immediately and the residents were told to uphold law and order and also to be alert.

The vehicle in which the SP West Jaintia Hills was travelling faced wrath of the Karbi citizens who resorted to hurling of stones and even launched an aggressive attack with equipments but the vehicle escaped with slight damage.

The intention of the Karbi citizens to go to Khanduli village was thwarted by the Assam police.

Leaders of KSU and JSU headed to Khanduli to boost the morale of Khanduli residents.
