Oil India Rural Development Society (OIRDS), under the patronage of Oil India Limited (OIL), organized the annual ‘Meet the Farmers’ programme for the 2024 batch at Gethupathar, Dibrugarh, on Monday. The event underscored OIL’s commitment to promoting sustainable farming practices and empowering the agricultural community.

Graced by Bhairab Bhuyan, ED- Engg. Services & President, OIRDS; Debashis Bora, CGM-FA & Vice-President, OIRDS; and Sanghamitra Baruah, Co-District Commissioner, Naharkatia, along with senior OIL officials, the gathering welcomed representatives from 14 adopted Pathar Parichalona Samities (PPSs) across Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, and Charaideo districts. These PPSs, supported for both Sali and Rabi cultivation, engaged in insightful discussions on sustainable agriculture.

The interactive session provided a platform for farmers to exchange knowledge with OIRDS teams and agricultural experts, delving into cutting-edge farming technologies and ecological practices. Farmers were encouraged to share their experiences and feedback to enhance future programs.

Commending OIL and OIRDS for their continuous rural development initiatives, Sanghamitra Baruah lauded their efforts, stating, “Farmers are the backbone of our economy, and OIL’s unwavering support is instrumental in fostering agricultural growth and sustainability.”

A competitive segment recognized top-performing PPSs based on paddy and vegetable production during the last Kharif and Rabi seasons. SEUJ Pathar Parichalana Samiti, Dibrugarh, bagged the award for highest Sali production, while Uttar Somdar Pathar Parichalana Samiti, Charaideo, was honored for outstanding Rabi production. Other participating PPSs also delivered impressive yields and received certificates of appreciation.

Farmers shared inspiring success stories, crediting OIL’s holistic support, including expert training provided by the Agriculture Department, Government of Assam. The annual ‘Meet the Farmers’ event continues to drive knowledge-sharing, innovation, and motivation among farming communities, reinforcing OIL’s dedication to sustainable agriculture and rural progress.
