    The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal called upon the student community to work with utmost commitment and handwork towards the cause of nation-building.

    The minister was addressing the U Tirot Sing Best Student Award felicitation programme here today. The programme was organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Meghalaya in Shillong today.

    Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal said, “This is an auspicious occasion when all of us have gathered here under the blessings of great U Tirot Sing. His inspiring tale of love for the country as well as his sacrifice for the good of his homeland must inspire our hearts and minds towards the cause of nation-building. The Yuva Shakti is the Maha Shakti that can transform a nation to become successful, strong and sustainable. Empowered by these ideals, all of us can work together to realise the vision of our dynamic leader Shri Narendra Modi ji to make India the third largest economy by 2030.”

    “Parents, students, and teachers are the three most powerful pillars of the academic ecosystem. Today, as all three pillars are present here, this makes this event a success as it would inspire all of you to work hard towards a better tomorrow. For the love of our country, we must work together to make our beautiful and rich northeast transform into the New Engine of economic growth, as was envisaged by the most popular leader of this world, our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji,” Sarbananda Sonowal further added.

    ABVP has organised the U Tirot Sing Best Students Award with an aim to boost and motivate the students for academic excellence since 2016 in the name of the great freedom fighter of Meghalaya, U Tirot Sing. The felicitation programme was graced by the Union Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal as the Chief Guest while Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary of Meghalaya, Alexander Laloo Hek graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Dr Kestonbel Manik Syiemlieh, Dy Syiem of Hima Nongkhlow and 5th decedent of U Tirot Sing Syiem also graced the occasion as the guest while Dr Sashankutlang Khongthohrem, state president of ABVP also spoke on the occasion.
