JOWAI: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) asked the Assam Government and the Meghalaya Government to solve the border dispute through discussions at the earliest.

“Any border conflict must be resolved by government to government contact only while adding that police action creates misunderstanding and more confusion,” said a press communiqué signed by Dipanka Kumar Nath, President All Assam Students’ Union (AASU).

He further said that the AASU believes that peoples to peoples contact and peoples to people relationships in the border areas can create a congenial atmosphere in the border areas.  AASU and KSU is in touch to work together at the initiative of NESO, he added.

So that people living in the border areas do not live in constant fear but can have peaceful existence, he asserted.

“We strongly condemned the action of Assam Police on innocent people on 14th February, at Umwali, West Khasi Hills resulting in the injury of local 28 women,” Nath said.

He also said that it was unimaginable to think that armed male police would attack the women and this is an inhumane act and they demanded stern action against them.
