Seventy per cent of the solid waste processing and disposal plant for Jowai and Khliehriat has been completed.

This was informed by the State during a hearing conducted by the Meghalaya High Court on September 5, with regards to a PIL filed by the Synjuk Ki Waheh Shnong Jowai on the Jowai garbage issue.

The State has filed a report on the progress of 10 TPD solid waste-management systems.

The report indicated that the solid waste processing and disposal plant for Jowai and Khliehriat has been completed to the extent of 70 per cent as at September 4, 2023.

“It is hoped that the scheduled date of completion by the end of the year is adhered to,” the division bench said in its order.

It said that since the petitioner is not represented, that may be a good sign and indicate that the problem complained of may have been taken care of.

The Jowai Municipal Board had informed that regular removal of garbage is continuing on the lines as indicated before and as per the directions of this Court.
