Sohra records over 400 mm rainfall in 12 hours

Meghalaya witnessed exceptionally heavy rainfall on Friday with Sohra (Cherrapunjee) recording the highest downpour of 402.6 mm between 8:30 AM and 8:30 PM on May 30, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shillong.
Widespread moderate to heavy rainfall was reported across many parts of the state, while very heavy to extremely heavy rain occurred at a few locations and isolated places experienced exceptionally heavy rainfall.
Mawsynram (East Khasi Hills) followed closely with 356.7 mm, while Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills received 222.5 mm. Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills recorded 182.5 mm, and Khatarshnong Laitkroh (East Khasi Hills) logged 173.5 mm.
Other notable rainfall measurements included:

- Byrnihat (Ri Bhoi): 101.5 mm
- Amlarem (West Jaintia Hills): 101.5 mm
- Shillong (AWS): 86.0 mm
- Laban (East Khasi Hills): 84.5 mm
- NEHU (East Khasi Hills): 80.5 mm
Southern Garo Hills remained relatively dry, with Ampati (SWGH) recording 19.5 mm and Baghmara (SGH) just 7.5 mm.
