    Meghalaya social activist Joannes JTL Lamare has been appointed as the Secretary for the Meghalaya State chapter by Aynul Hossain Secretary General International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) for a period of 1 year from Saturday.

    The IHRC is an international, non profit organization dedicated to implementing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at, regional, national and international levels.

    The IHRC said Lamare appointment was in recognition of his exemplary dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to the cause of peace and human rights.

    The IHRC directed Lamare to involve collaborating with governmental bodies, international organizations, and community groups to advance the cause of peace and human rights throughout the Meghalaya State circle.

    Informing Lamare on his duties and responsibilities, the IHRC said fighting individual violations of Human Rights, whether through direct intervention or by providing support to Government Law Enforcement Agencies, Commissions, or relevant Courts of Law.

    Secondly, offering direct assistance to individuals whose rights have been violated. Thirdly, actively participating in the implementation of Human Rights treaties. Fourthly, conducting thorough and impartial investigations of alleged Human Rights violations.

    Filthly, taking all necessary measures to ensure the protection of individuals against violence, threats, retaliation, discrimination, pressure, or any other arbitrary action resulting from the legitimate exercise of rights as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) of 1948.

    Sixthly, initiating public awareness campaigns to enhance Human Rights literacy. Seventhly, focusing on encouraging the government to fulfill its Human Rights obligations.

    Besides advocating for democratization and an end to corruption and supporting better governance and government policies.
